Communicating via Blog

I think most people viewed the blogs as an annoying assigment that just had to be done. I don't feel it really helped us to get to know each other. People were just forced to do this assignment and just did it for the grade. Even though some blogs were interesting to read, I don't feel that people were really interested. I didn't really get to know anyone because I didn't know who I was replying to. I guess the blog assignment does help share your opinions about the class you get to express yourself towards everyone including the Professor. I don't think the outside reading about management blogs helped. I beleive real life examples in class would be better and people would enjoy them more. I don't think anyone wanted any outside reading, I think bringing guests to class would be more interesting. Being that the blog was 20% off gave a lot of test anxieties off. It made us worry less about the tests and felt like it was a an easy way to get 20% of our grade. I don't plan on writing about myself in the future because I don't see myself sharing my life with people I am not too close with.

The ABCS of DISC

The leadership/diagnostic test that we conducted in class was somewhat accurate. It did describe myself pretty well. The test showed that I was an "I" representing influence. The emphasis is on shaping the environment by influencing or persuading others which I beleive is pretty accurate description for me. I like generating enthusiasm, entertaining people, and keeping people awake. I do wish I was more of a "C", conscientiousness, working conscientiously within existing circumstances to ensure quality and accuracy. I lack concentration and paying attention to detail. I do feel it is helpful to know a person's management "type" to better understand where they are ocming from and what kind of person they are. It helps to know how the person usually acts and what he or she likes and dislikes. I think a test like this can help for personal interactions such as dating because you can find people with similar management types as youself and that will have you sharing a lot of things in common. I think it increases the chance the indivuals get along and become more serious.

The Power of Vision

"The Power of Vision" showed us that it is important to have a vision for your future. There are many goals that I want to achieve upon graduating. I hope to accomplish these goals inorder to be successful in the future.
My first goal is to get a permament job in a top financial company. This will be the turning point of my life and will get msyself settled. From there on, I can look concentrate on other things in life. The actions that I am taking to make this vision a reality is studying very hard and maintaining a high GPA. I am also trying to get as much as experience as I can in the corporate world through internships and club meetings. I also attend many of the events at baruch that have guest speakers who have become successful and talk about their journey.
My second goal is to buy a large house for my family and myself. I want my parents to relax as they have worked too hard. The actions that I am taking to make this vision a reality is working and saving money. I am also getting started in stocks which I hope to be successful in to make more money towards the house. This goal does correlate with the first one, as I get the job I hope to get, it will become easier to buy a house.
Another goal of mine is to travel to as many places as possible. I want to travel to many countries in Europe and Asia. I want to look at different lifestyles and adapt to different cultures as I explore how different people live. The goals that I am taking to make this vision into a reality is signing up for study abroad program which will let me see how school is in a different country. I am also planning on a vacation that I will spend time traveling and only traveling.

I beleive all these goals are attainable and just need hard work and motivation. I hope to attain all my goals upon graduating.

Decision Making

This class showed how hard it was for managers to make decisions among many people. Everyone must be on the same page and all of the support must demonstrate the same idea. The key ingredient for this decision making process was to have a good leader and this was demonstrated through Richard. He provided his leadership skills and asserted himself to make everyone agree on the issues. Each person's views had to be respected and taken into consideration because ultimately everyone had to agree and be on the same page in order for us to accomplish our goal. We had many different ideas written on the board and then we had a vote on what things we shoud keep.
We used two main ways of the decision making process - Compromise and Collaborating. Many of us compromised on certain issues such as extra credit. Some of us though 25 was too much and others thought 5 was too little. So we agreed on 10 points even though ultimately it was lowered down to 7. Collaborating was a big method that we had to use. We had multiple ideas coming from different people and all shared the same goal. We worked together to achieve that goal and were successful. I beleive we should have been broken down to groups and each group propose their plan. That would make things less chaotic and it would be more organized. This would save time and we would all agree much quicker.

Eggs-Cellent

Eggs-cellent was a very fun activity that I'm sure we all enjoyed. As much fun as we had, it also taught us how to work as a team and think as a group with everyone sharing the same goal. Our team worked very well together and the results showed it. The steps we used from the planning process were steps 1, 4 , and 5. We all threw out many different ideas and quickly agreed on one plan. We knew we didn't have much time so we worked together and started practicing our planned procedure. We were very organized and ready to go as each member contributed their efforts for the group and we were successful. I beleive our team was well prepared and very effective on our approach as we proved to be succesful. Our performance was excellent but one thing we could have done better was to explore more ideas, other than that we did a great job.

Management Problem

A management problem that I am currently facing is whether to take an unpaid internship which I got invited to or work at a cellphone store where I get paid and really need the money. On one hand is the internship where I will gain valuable experience and it will look great on my resume. The downside is that I wont be making any money for about three months. I will go broke and wil have to ask my parents for money which I dont like doing. At the cellphone store, I get enough money for myself every week. From money for transportation and lunch, I can live off this job and enjoy my life. I am in a dillema and I'm not sure what decision to take.
